Jamie Redknapp makes sulking comment in stark message to Aston Villas Tyrone Mings – Birmingham Live

Jamie Redknapp says Tyrone Mings needs to “step up” after the Aston Villa defender was a shock omission from their starting 11 against West Ham.

Dean Smith took the decision to axe the skipper from his line-up which led to Kortney Hause partnering Ezri Konsa in defence.

But amid concern over Mings’ form, it was a decision that did little to improve Villa’s fortunes on the pitch as they thrashed 4-1 by the Hammers.

And speaking afterwards on Sky Sports, pundit Redknapp said: “If you’re Tyrone Mings and say I’m playing well, he needs to have a look at himself and step up.

“It’s no time for sulking, get on with it. Sometimes players have too much power.”

In the build-up to the game, Smith, who was talking to Sky Sports, explained his decision, saying: “We didn’t play well in the first-half against Arsenal.

“I think whenever you change your team it’s a big call, that’s what you’re paid to do.”
