Jessica Simpson shares unflattering flashback photo to mark four years sober – Daily Mail

Movie star and fashion designer Jessica Simpson got sober four years ago.

And on Monday the Dukes Of Hazzard actress, 41, took to Instagram to reflect on what was a very good decision for her and her family as she shared a shocking image of herself.

The blonde beauty is almost unrecognizable as she looks bloated and confused while wearing a pink track suit as she sat down in a dark room.

‘This person in the early morning of Nov 1, 2017 is an unrecognizable version of myself,’ said the author who has daughters Maxwell, nine, and Birdie, two, as well as son Ace, eight, with husband Eric Johnson.

‘I had so much self discovery to unlock and explore. I knew in this very moment I would allow myself to take back my light, show victory over my internal battle of self respect, and brave this world with piercing clarity.’

She said to do this she needed to stop drinking alcohol because it kept her mind and heart circling in the same direction.

‘And quite honestly I was exhausted,’ added the sister of Ashlee Simpson.

She added that she wanted to feel the pain so she could ‘carry it like a badge of honor.’

And Simpson wanted to live as a leader does and ‘break cycles to advance forward- never looking back with regret and remorse over any choice I have made and would make for the rest of my time here within this beautiful world.’

The clothing designer said she can’t believe it has been four years since she stopped drinking.

‘It feels like maybe 2. I think that is a good thing. Ha.’

She also said there is so much stigma around the word alcoholism or the label of an alcoholic.

‘The real work that needed to be done in my life was to actually accept failure, pain, brokenness, and self sabotage,’ said the Public Affair singer.

‘The drinking wasn’t the issue. I was. I didn’t love myself. I didn’t respect my own power. Today I do.

‘I have made nice with the fears and I have accepted the parts of my life that are just sad. I own my personal power with soulful courage. I am wildly honest and comfortably open. I am free.’

In her memoir Open Book she talked about getting dry. ‘I was killing myself with all the drinking and pills,’ she said. ‘Giving up the alcohol was easy. I was mad at that bottle. At how it allowed me to stay complacent and numb.’

Therapy was not as easy: ‘With work, I allowed myself to feel the traumas I’d been through.’

When she was six she shared a bed with the daughter of a family friend when she was abused. ‘It would start with tickling my back and then go into things that were extremely uncomfortable.’

But she kept quiet: ‘I wanted to tell my parents. I was the victim but somehow I felt in the wrong.’

When she was 12 she told mom and dad Tina and Joe Simpson during a car trip. Her mother told her dad: ‘I told you something was happening.’ Simpson says her father kept his eye on the road and said nothing: ‘We never stayed at my parents’ friends house again but we also didn’t talk about what I had said.’

Last month Simpson has secured control of her thriving billion-dollar fashion and accessories company.

The former actress had to do so because her company’s parent company Sequential Brands Group Inc. filed for bankruptcy in August.

The looker launched the company in 2005 after stepping back from acting, singing and reality TV.

‘It means the absolute world to me to be able to take over complete ownership of my brand,’ Jessica said in a Footwear News cover story.

‘After 16 years in business I feel ready to meet this next exciting phase with open arms. I know the sky is the limit when my mom, our incredible team and I lock into our customers completely.’

Tina – who serves as president of the company – added, ‘For all of our hard-working, talented, amazing licensing partners, to know Jessica is at the helm gives them strength and belief in the future.’

She had the cash: Earlier this year the actress bid $65M to buy back her brand. The bid came the day before their licensing company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection

And the matriarch said that for Jessica to regain control of her namesake brand, it allows them with their team and their licensing and retail partners to ‘build the legacy brand to carry on to her children and family.’

Jessica said the late shoe designer Vince Camuto was a mentor to her after he helped her with her launch 16 years ago.

‘Never in my wildest dreams could I fathom being part of a true lifestyle collection brand that has been at the top of its game for 16 years, but Vince could,’ she told Footwear News. ‘After six months in the business Vince knew.’

Sequential Brands Group Inc. held an auction to bring in investors for all of its brands.

Jessica’s competition was Galaxy Active and Centric Brands, according to Bloomberg.

Sequential shared that it had debts of $435M and assets of $
