Ronaldo and Cavani shine

Talk about needing a win.

Manchester United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer desperately needed all three points against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday and they got just that.

A change in formation and personnel proved to be the difference as United banished the demons from their 5-0 defeat to Liverpool last week.

Every player in red on Saturday put in a shift and the MEN has given their player ratings.

Solskjaer selects his star of the game

Man of the match awards can be tricky as people often rate a players performance based on different things.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani both got on the scoresheet on Saturday while the defence kept a clean sheet and prevented Spurs from having a single shot on target throughout the 90 minutes.

But Solskjaer picked a surprising player for his man of the match.

“Man of the match for me, by a mile,” Solskjaer said. “That’s the Scott we’ve seen a few times before.”

Solskjaer explains Cavani start

Cavani’s goal in the second half was his first of the season for United.

Having to play second fiddle to the summer arrival of Ronaldo and having his season start later than everyone else’s after being allowed an extended break during the pre-season, Cavani has yet to get going this campaign.

Speaking after the victory, Solskjaer admitted that the striker’s performance in training led to him getting the nod on Saturday evening.

“Tuesday morning’s training session by Edinson Cavani is the best I’ve seen by an individual since I came here.”
