Manchester United player ratings: Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani good vs Tottenham – Manchester Evening News

David de Gea

Had possibly his quietest ever match against Tottenham. Difficult to recall any significant save he had to make against a terrible Tottenham. 6

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Impressive at both ends. Much more alert and offered support in the final third for Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani. Great tackle on Son Heung-min. 8

Victor Lindelof

Outpaced by an offside Son (who seemed on) but otherwise much more secure and benefited from the return of Raphael Varane. 7

Harry Maguire

Booked but better. Purposefully strode into Tottenham territory with Varane and Lindelof holding the fort. Harry Kane did not have a sniff. 7

Raphael Varane

On this occasion, Varane was a silver bullet after his manager dodged a bullet. His positioning was impeccable and reading of the game second to none. 8

Luke Shaw

A much-needed improvement on last week and he offered plenty of width during United’s spells of possession. 6

Scott McTominay

Fortunate to start but bossed the midfield with Fred and his game-management stood out during different phases. 7

Pressed successfully against Tottenham’s disjointed midfield and provided a good link between the defence and attack. 7

Bruno Fernandes

Often erratic with the ball, as per usual, but he created Ronaldo’s goal and his canny play in the transition made Cavani’s goal possible. 7

Cristiano Ronaldo

Imitated Marco van Basten with his volley and then dissected the Spurs defence to play in Cavani to make it 2-0. 8

Edinson Cavani

Gave United an edge up front next to Ronaldo and took his goal was converted masterfully. A triumphant return to the starting XI. 8

Marcus Rashford

Made it 3-0. 7

Nemanja Matic

Assisted Rashford. 7

Jesse Lingard

Cameoed. 6

Two changes was a surprise but the tactical switch paid off, as did the recall of Edinson Cavani. United had more of an edge in attack. 8
