Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas is taking things ‘a day at a time’ after her doctor was left stunned over her scan results.

The 61-year-old now needs scans on all her organs after it was discovered she had high levels of hormones, and the former Queen of Latin is focusing on the positives, rather than the negatives.

Shirley was launched into action earlier this month, when she was contacted by a concerned Strictly viewer who had spotted a lump in her armpit, and since then, she’s undergone a barrage of tests to determine what was wrong.

But the results have left her doctor pushing for urgent full-body scans at King’s College in London, and Shirley is refusing to be overwhelmed by the news.

“My doctor was mortified by my results. I try to take a day at a time,” she told The Sun, as she revealed she tries not to focus on her health worries “because it’s easy for me to go down a dark route.”

Shirley said her last cancer scare in 2018 left with her a “stoic” attitude, and despite the abnormal hormone levels, she’s committed to her busy schedule, which is proving to be a good distraction.

She said while no lump was found, one of her doctor’s was concerned by Shirley’s testosterone levels, which were “the highest she’s seen in a female”, but she’s determined to “keep trundling forward”.

“She won’t speculate on what the cause is, she just says, ‘We need to deal with this. Let’s deal with the hormones and then see what else is there’,” the TV star explained.

Shirley said she’s been suffering from insomnia and fatigue for a while, but had put it down to her gruelling schedule, which she says keeps her from feeling “dark and lonely”.

“I do tend to worry, so for me it’s a case of keep busy, keep busy, keep moving,” she added.

She thanked the concerned viewer who got in touch with her earlier this month, and said she’d been suffering from a couple of health ailments – including being unable to lose weight and severe tiredness – that had been frustrating her.

Shirley said some mornings she “just wants to go back to bed” because everything “seems a challenge”, but she’s hoping that finding out the cause of her health woes will help her feel better.

Shirley replaced head judge Len Goodman in 2017, and since then, has become a firm favourite with Strictly fans.

Before she joined the hit BBC One show, she underwent a colonoscopy in the US after cancerous cells were found in her bowel, and in 2019, she had her breast implants removed after a breast cancer scare.
