Giovanni Pernice was overcome with emotion as he and dance partner Rose Ayling-Ellis made history on Strictly Come Dancing.
The show’s ‘King of Halloween’ was in tears as he and EastEnders star Rose received a perfect score of 40 from the judges for their tango to Shivers by Ed Sheeran.
It was the highest score of the series so far and also the earliest that the mark of 40 has been awarded in the show’s history.
As the scores came in the pair screamed and hugged.
Giovanni, who already held the record as the top scoring pro dancer for Halloween on the BBC dance contest after joining the show in 2015, then placed his face in his hands and sank to his knees as he took in what the moment meant.
Fans took to Twitter, already convinced of the same thing – that the pair could go on to win the coveted Glitterball when the final is due to be screened on December 18.
“Mesmerising every single week! Rose and Gio to win,” said one.
“Rose and Giovanni are strong contenders to win, I think,” said another.
“Rose and Giovanni as the winners of #Strictly2021,” tweeted another.
The show’s official Twitter announced: “The first 40 of the series for Rose and Gio and the earliest 40 ever in the history of #Strictly! Giovanni is STILL the King of #Halloween.”

Viewers said the moment melted their hearts.
“GIOVANNI IN TEARS IM CRYING,” exclaimed one.
“Sorry but Giovanni in tears getting a 40 was so pure, I love him,” said another.
“The best pro in terms of his teaching skills and choreography that highlights his partners strengths. He was robbed of a win the year he had Debbie McGee, so I’d love this to be his time.”
“Still thinking about Rose and Giovanni, and his proud tears after seeing their score,” tweeted a third fan.
“Their growth has been incredible to witness. I think that dance will be on repeat tonight!”
